Episode Notes: As Darkness Falls

Disclaimer
-- No Centaurs were harmed in the production of this motion picture.

Continuity Errata
-- The sword Hercules uses to fight against Nemis is broken during their fight, and he tosses it away. In the last scene he presents it to Cheris, but he was never shown recovering the sword before the cave-in, and it seems unlikely that he could have retrieved it afterward.

Some Things Stay the Same
-- Salmoneus is trying to sell real estate to the wedding guests to make a fast dinar.

Actors and Actresses
-- Lucy Lawless portrays Lyla. She's popular with the production: in addition to her future role as Xena, she also portrayed one of Hippolyta's Amazons in Hercules and the Amazon Women.
-- Cliff Curtis, who portrays Nemis the centaur, also played Nessus, Nemis' twin brother, in Hercules and the Underworld. Nessus was slain by Hercules after attempting to abduct Deianeira.

Mythological Connections
-- Penelope is also the name of the faithful wife of Odysseus, who refused to take another husband even after being told that her husband was dead.
-- The plotline of centaurs kidnapping wedding guests comes from a tale in which a centaur named Eurytion and several others became drunk at the wedding of Peirithoüs and Hippodameia. Once drunk, they attempted to kidnap and rape the bride and other women. The centaurs were driven out of Thessaly by Peirithoüs and some of his guests (including Theseus, Peleus, and Nestor). This event occurred prior to the incident in which Hercules killed Nessus.
-- According to myth, Hercules was taught by the most famous centaur of all, Cheiron, who also taught Jason and Achilles.
